Enesco announces new Willow Tree® figurine showcasing the moving power of music & movement

Contemporary gift retailer, Enesco, has unveiled two variations of a new figurine joining the Willow Tree® family, stylishly depicting the power music has to move and speak to us all.

Music Speaks stands at 17.0cm tall and retails with a SRP of £47.00. It features a female figure with her arms crossed in front of her chest, her head gently tilted to the side, as if swaying and swirling in time to music. Originally carved in clay, then cast in resin and hand-painted, the figurine is available in both a lighter and darker skin tone. The underlying resin material of both skin tones shows through a thin layer of paint rubbed over her entire garment, revealing an intricate play of dancing forms, musical instruments and notes, and detailed patterning. Her gesture is one of enchantment — almost as if the music she is listening to is woven into the very fibre of her being.

So much so, artist Susan Lordi said: “Music is the foundation of all the performing arts.  Music transports us— it can be absorbed quietly, evoking strong memories, or move us in powerful ways. It makes us dance, laugh, cry, sing, create. It’s the cornerstone of so much that we love. Even people with memory loss can enjoy and connect with music. It has a way of directly speaking to the soul.

“As I was contemplating sculpting a piece that is an expression of music, I wanted to etch a pattern that tells a story. The interlocking carvings of dancers and musical instruments flow in a continuous narrative around the figure.

“Her gesture is one of being enraptured. She could be the listener, or she could be the performer, sharing her gift with others.”

Like all of her sculptures, Lordi carves the original figure from her studio in Kansas City, Missouri.  Pieces are then cast from her original carvings and hand-painted. Willow Tree figurines communicate expression through gesture only.  A tilt of the head or placement of hand allows the sculptures to speak in quiet ways that are open to individual interpretation.
