Gund Sesame Street

‘Come and play, everything’s A-OK!’ So the theme song for Sesame Street goes — and there’s plenty to play with, from seasonal characters to Sleepy Time Elmo and a host of new items inspired by your favourite characters, designed for fun.

Sesame Street® was conceived in 1966 during discussions between television producer Joan Ganz Cooney and Carnegie Foundation vice president, Lloyd Morrisett. Their goal was to create a children’s television show that would ‘master the addictive qualities of television and do something good with them’, such as helping young children prepare for school. As author Malcolm Gladwell has stated, ‘Sesame Street® was built around a single, breakthrough insight: that if you can hold the attention of children, you can educate them’.

The programme is known for its educational content, and fast-moving, strong, visual images communicated through the use of Jim Henson’s Muppets, animation, short films, using humour, music and cultural references.

As pioneers of most of the soft toy developments you see today, GUND® (America’s oldest and most prestigious soft toy company, founded in 1898) is proud to have been the first company to develop an ‘under stuffing’ technique using super-soft materials, and one of the first companies to produce a licensed soft toy. For more than a century, GUND® products have embodied Sesame Street’s mission by promoting learning through play and fun!
